Winding road to Mussourie
Mussourie also called Queen of hill stations at an altitude of 2000 meters is situated 35 Kms from Dehradun, capital of Uttaranchal. Dehradun can be accessed from New Delhi either by road or train and is about 230 Kms. away. Both road journey as well as train journey is a pleasant experience. In case you travel by train, just outside the station there is a taxi stand operated by GMVN and taxis can be hired at approved rates which is about Rs.1200/- to Rs.1500/- per trip. Lodging is available aplenty in this hill station suiting your budget. The main attractions within the townships are the markets which stretch on the mall upto the Library Chowk and other is the Kulri Market. You can also enjoy ropeway ride to top of Gun Hill, which provides a panoramic view of the township below and each ride costs around Rs.100/- (both ways). The other main attractions are the Lal tibba and Camel back Hump.

Excusions from Mussourie -
(1) Kempty falls -
One of the major attractions of Mussourie is the Kempty falls which is situated 15 Kms. down in the Valley and is approached through a winding road. Taxis are available at authorized stands and charge between Rs.700/- to Rs.900/- per round trip. The falls are picturesque but the crowd at the base water pool is unmanaged. It is enjoyable trek down to the base of the water fall but it is advisable to climb up by the rope way which is conveniently placed and priced.
(2) Clouds end -
Clouds end is about 7 Kms from the Library Chowk in Mussourie. It is stated that it is one of the earlies English bungalows to have come up in this area and built in 1883. This English cottage has now been converted into a modern resort with much of the old architecture compromised in the process. One can hire a taxi from the Library Chowk and the round trip will cost Rs.900/- onwards and will cover a visit to George Everest Lodge on the way. This area still retains its natural self and a invigorating site for nature lovers.
(3) Dhanaulti -
Dhanaulti is situated about 27 Kms. above Mussourie at an altitude of 2286 meters and is the launching place for some of the known treks along the Yamuna river valley. The place boasts of pristine forest sites and is a nature's delight. On the way you will come across children selling fruits from the orchards situated around during the summer months. However, one should be beware of the pony wallahs who charge exorbitant rates for a very short trek which can be easily covered within half an hour by foot. The place has many natural visual treats to enjoy and a good place for quiet getaway from City life.
